What is a tamarind?

Tamarinds are bean-like pods filled with seeds surrounded by a fibrous pulp. The paste-like fruits have a sweet and sour taste. They are an excellent source of vitamin B, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, iron, fiber, and other nutrients.

Tamarinds have been eaten and used as a cooking ingredient around the world. They flavor sauces, drinks, and desserts. Tamarinds are also a traditional medicinal remedy for sore throat, diarrhea, and inflammation. It may have antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties.
